Great Hearts Academies to Launch Second Campus in Tarrant County
A public charter network offering a classical liberal arts curriculum announces it will open its second Tarrant County school, Great Hearts Arlington, in August 2021.
DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TX. — September 22, 2020 — Great Hearts Academies has announced plans to launch its second campus in Tarrant County in August 2021. This will be the charter school network’s eighth campus in Texas and will bear the name Great Hearts Arlington. Last month, Great Hearts broke ground on the future school site located at 6701 S Cooper St in Arlington, Texas.
Great Hearts Academies are tuition-free K-12 public charter schools that offer a rigorous classical liberal arts curriculum including advanced math and science, robust arts and foreign language classes, and a wide range of extra-curricular activities and athletics. The core purpose of Great Hearts is to cultivate the hearts and minds of students through the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.
The new campus will initially serve approximately 600 students in grades K-5 and will expand a grade level each year until it becomes a fully enrolled K-12 campus. Phase I construction began in August and Phase II will begin in subsequent years. At full capacity, Great Hearts Arlington will accommodate 1,400 students.
Great Hearts Lakeside was the first campus to open in the area. The Lakeside campus began remote instruction for over 700 K-5 students on August 19 and opened its doors to approximately 70% of the school community who opted to return to the building at first opportunity. And 30% of the families chose to continue with the online offering through the first quarter.
Network-wide, there are over 22,000 students enrolled in 33 academies across Texas and Arizona, and the waitlist continues to grow. In Texas alone, at the end of the previous enrollment period, Great Hearts reported there were approximately 5,500 children on the waitlist across the state, proving there is parent demand for classical education in primary and secondary schools.
“We proudly prepare students for success at the best colleges and universities in the nation, but see our highest calling as the moral and intellectual formation of great hearted young men and women prepared to lead lives of purpose and vision.” stated David Denton, Executive Director of Great Hearts in North Texas. “We are excited to offer a classical public charter school option to the families of Tarrant County, and are encouraged by the warm welcome we’ve received from the parent community.”
Applications go live on Monday, November 9 for both Great Hearts Arlington and Great Hearts Lakeside. Visit www.greatheartsamerica.org/enroll today for more information.
